APS - The Flat Roof Professionals
REPAIR - INSTALLATION - RBM - LEAD - GRP - ASPHALT - TILED - EDPM
Although they have a bad reputation for leaks and (ponding) puddle collection, flat roofs are a popular roofing option for extensions, garages and modern housing in Swindon, Bristol, Oxford and Reading.
These days the modern materials that can be used are a vast improvement on the materials used decades ago i.e. bitumen felt or asphalt. But, some of these still need to be visually inspected and maintained on a regular basis, especially if you have not used a Professional Roofer for the installation
At APS, we have over 30 years’ experience with flat roofing and when we install or lay a flat roof, we make sure it is built to last. Levelled to perfection for perfect water drainage, out of a material that is most suited to your project and budget.
Small amounts of water collection on your roof is not the sign that it is end of days, but you will want to keep an eye on it. Regular build ups in a certain location can lead to structure damage, as it is often the case that the roof interior has not been built to maintain the extra weight - If you are observing this with your flat roof, get in touch with us and we can advise on any measures that may need to be taken, to prevent serious and costly damage.
We are also experts with GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) - Applied correctly, a GRP Roof will last in excess of 20 years and it is not prone to rot or corrosion. (It is actually the material most commonly used on the hull of boats.)
GRP is an effective cold liquid system like Polymer but far more robust. GRP offers an insulation layer and is suitable for all kinds of flat roofs. GRP also offers the additional advantages of being relatively inexpensive and presents an ideal all-round offering for your property. In summary a GRP roof installed by APS will require little if any maintenance once we have installed in for you.
It can also be noted that a GRP Roof can be used for both domestic and commercial applications.
In addition to our vast experience with Flat and GRP Roofing, APS also offer the following benefits;
DIFFERENT FLAT ROOFING MATERIALS USED BY APS
As mentioned although APS are specialists with GRP, we are also experienced with all other Flat Roofing materials such as:
RBMs aka Reinforced Bitumen Membranes -This material is made with 2-3 layers of a waterproof material, most commonly felt. These are then laid on the roof and are covered with Shingles or gravel. Although these used to be a very common site on buildings such as garages, we have found that homeowners do not request them as often, now that there are sleeker and most cosmetic materials available.
Tiles - The tiles used on Flat roofs are not your normal slate roof tiles, but far sturdier and are made from materials such as rubber, bitumen, plastic or porous concrete. These are used on terraces and areas where people are likely to walk upon them.
Note: Before you look at doing this, you need to ensure the structure below is sound i.e. built well enough to take the weight.
Single ply - This flexible polymer material is normally made from PVC. It is thin and comes in huge rolls, normally large enough that 1-2 can complete a whole flat roof surface. Although it can be noted that this is normally used on a low sloping surface roof as opposed to flat, and does not require hot torches or asphalt for the installation.
Asphalt - What everyone used to have on the shed roof at one point, a luxury gravel on asphalt roof? It comes in rolls and is either nailed or cemented onto the flat roof. You will still find it present on many garden sheds and it is ideal for this use. But it is cheap and does not survive the elements as good as any other material. It is prone to leaks and weather damage.
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer aka EDPM - This has now taken over felt when applied with RBM. It is a far a more robust rubber, that lasts longer, does not require joins, is more waterproof and gives a better smoother finish.
Lead - Although a Lead roof is more common on buildings such as those with heritage, it is such a flexible material, it can also be used on almost any roof, flat or not.
